Lots of news...
- I may soon have the equipment I need for doing the podcast.
- My music project, the kaddish., is finally taking off. The guy doing the electronics nearly got killed in an accident, though. He's relatively okay, but please keep him in your prayers if you do that.
- I did my top 10 of the year. And here it is, in both normal and kvlt forms...
In no order, except for the first one:
Spiritualized - Songs in A&E
Portishead - Third
Hatred Surge - Collection 2005-2007
Massgrav - This War Will be Won by Meat Eaters
Robert Fripp and Brian Eno - Morningstar
Torche - Meanderthal
Mount eerie - Lost Wisdom
Mount eerie - Dawn
Decrepit Birth - Diminishing Between Worlds
Boris - Smile
And I haven't really listened to the new Brightblack Morning Light, but if I had, it would probably be on here.
Blackened nordic and frostbitten kvlt as fvck form, in no order whatsoever. It's actualy a top 11, due to the number of releases one of the bands put out:
Brocken Moon - Das Maerchen Vom Schnee
Black Metal Mafia Records, Northern Silence (re-release on CD, LP)
Reminds me of Ulver's Nattens Madrigal. One of the few albums of any kind that I listen to regularly.
A Forest of Stars - The Corpse of Rebirth (Myspace)
Transcendental Creations (CD), IexMN (Cassette - sold out?)
Medieval folk, psychedelia and black metal. Sound interesting? Well it should, because it freaking RULES. It has a very fragile quality to it. This must be what music they make in the forest of Lothlorien in the Lord of the Rings.
Njiqahdda - (A whopping SIX RELEASES this year, all of them fantastic...)
Njimajikal Arts, Pagan Flames, Dungeons Deep, and E.E.E. Records (psht, google the labels yourself...)
I'm not going to bother choosing. Anyhow, they're a PHENOMENAL mix of black metal, shoegazer, and who knows what else. Reminds me of Velvet Cacoon, Forgotten Woods, Alcest, etc.
Taarma - Beyond the Cemetary Gates (Cassette limited to 200 copies)
Ancient Dreams
This is that Afghani (now based out of Pakistan) black metal band I don't shut up about. They sound like a cross between Xasthur and classic Darkthrone, with some punk thrown in. The previous full length had really clean production, which I felt detracted from the album. But this, their second full length, balances the production on that and the strength of their early work. It is ONLY available on cassette tape. Buy it online via Hell's Headbangers (Medina, OH) today!!!
Darkspace - III
Avantgarde Music
This was re commended to me by Eli from Belgium. It's really really good ambient black metal. It's from Switzerland and is the only satanic release to make it onto this list.
If Paysage d'Hiver had released an album this year, it would be on here. Also, Aras (Iran) released something this year, but I have only heard one song off of it, so I can't accurately judge it...

why do you think dark space iii is a satanic release?
ReplyDeletei read that they were and they have a pentagram in their logo.
ReplyDeleteok, well, i don't care about the pentagram, but i've always read that what makes them different is that they don't make music about satanism, but about space instead... well, i don't know, they don't have lyrics anyways ;)
